MUSIC THERAPY FOR THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BRAIN

 _____________________________________________

This Wannabe Artist has long known that our creativity comes from the right side of the brain. Certain music makes my spirits soar and gives my creativity a boost! This followed such a "valley intermission" --

MUSIC

Makes my spirits soar!
Music makes me feel like
Singing

Dancing

Skipping

Leaping

Out of the valley

And over the mountain

Into the bright Rainbow

All throughout

Godspace

Somewhere

ANYWHERE

My heart can beat

Closer to HIS heart!

A break in the cares of the day is important! Sacred music gives the brain an opportunity to relax. When you really LISTEN with your heart, and count God's Blessings, you become renewed in mind, spirit and body!

And while you're counting those blessings, may I suggest one to remember:

If you can hold someone's hand, hug them, or even touch them on the shoulder you are blessed, because you can offer a Caregiver's loving and healing touch!

SEARCHING FOR THE SOUND

When I found the music

I began listening with my physical ears,

Then with my spiritual ears.

The music spoke volumes

To the soul inside me --

The words,

The tones,

The expression,

And it still does!

Upbeat music can help give you a more positive outlook on your caregiving situation! I fill the house daily with music! It can also lift the spirits of your loved one!

I BELIEVE

I believe in the

 SUN

Even on days when it's covered by a cloud.

I believe in

LOVE

Even on days when I don't feel it.

I believe in

GOD

Even though I can't see Him!

Music creates an overall sense of well-being. Listen -- really listen -- to music and its rhythm and see if you don't feel better! Slow tunes calm and soothe the spirit but Upbeat tunes invigorate!

You've had some rest, now put aside your "yawning" music! Let's move on to the music that makes you swing your chair and tap your toe! You're just sitting there anyway, aren't you! No excuses!

And you might even consider turning the volume up pretty nice and loud and doing a few sitting aerobics to the music!  But we will never call it EXERCISE... No, no, no!

OK, ready? Just try it! Sit straight in the chair. This is important! Feet flat on the floor.  Reach those arms out to each side and "punch the air" with first one fist, then the other, to the beat of the music!  Arms straight out from the shoulders. No cheating! Punch hard! Bring your fist back to your waist after each punch.

Now do the same, reaching forward...five or six times... then upward! Great! Don't overdo first time. Rest a minute, enjoying the beat of the music with your shoulders, and your toes.  In a couple days work both arms at the same time!

Also, you know, don't you, the same exercise -- oops! Dirty word... punching can be done with the legs. But you can figure that one out faster than I can explain.  Just remember: sit straight, back pressed against the chair -- and move to the music! Gets that blood circulating!

What do you think?  I know, "Thank God when this music's over!" But admit it. Aren't your arms too tired now to reach for that box of chocolates?

Seriously, everybody says to the Caregiver,

"You have to take care of yourself first!"

We both know that's easier said than done! But if you will do this little bit of punching frequently -- to music! -- in no time those weary muscles are going to "wake up and smell the coffee!" Your sense of humor, that you were afraid would show up in the Classified Lost and Found column, will swing right back into the music! You are going to find yourself feeling better both physically and mentally -- encouraged and thinking more positively!

You are "filled to the rim" now with the music and pumped up for the challenges of the next climb!

..Sing and make music in your hearts to the Lord!
